AMURT (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team) is one of the few private international voluntary organizations founded in India. Since its inception in 1965 its original objective was to help meet the needs of the affected population after disasters that regularly hit the Indian sub-continent. Over the years AMURT has established teams in thirty-four countries, to create a network that can meet disaster and development needs almost anywhere in the world.
At present AMURT has relief teams operating in the area where deadly typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines over a week ago. The scale of the disaster is extensive. The UN says more than 11 million people are believed to have been affected and some 673,000 displaced. Hundreds of towns and villages in the storm’s path remain out of contact, as relief efforts have been hampered by bad weather, poor communications and damaged infrastructure.
Their teams are working hard on the ground and deserve support. Make a donation to the Typhoon Relief Response in Philippines today!
