Magda 2 165108_138550736204210_6207100_nMagda Inglethorpe, born in 1927, known to us fondly as Durgana, passed early this morning.

We are grateful for the contribution she made to Yoga in South Africa. Her discipline and dedication to Hatha Yoga with Alan Finger then Tantra and Kriya practice with Kavi Yogiraj Mani Finger led her to being the Yoga Teachers’ Fellowship of SA’s first secretary in 1974. Her regular newsletter became the Complete Yoga Magazine. With the guidance of many gurus, including the precision of BSK Iyengar, her interest and knowledge of the Esoteric Sciences expanded. Durgana was a Reflexologist, Kinesiologist, Chairperson of the YTF and she compiled a 2 year Yoga of Integration Teacher training course.

Durgana and I met at Mani Finger’s studio in the early seventies and continued to reconnect over the years. The Ishta 500 hour training I teach is still from her blueprint. I acknowledge all who loved and helped Durgana in her life’s work: her family, especially Gay Lynne, Brian and John Inglethorpe; Janet Somers, Jeanette van Wyk and Vanessa Marais; Nandiva (Wendy Wood) for encouraging us both to teach. Condolences to her family.

With gratitude to Durgana for sharing her wisdom with us all. Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate and Realise. Let us together, put Sivananda’s blessing into practice.
