International Yoga Day – 21 June – is celebrated each year to create awareness that regular yoga practice increases the level of overall well-being.
21 June was declared as the ‘International Yoga Day’ by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014. The declaration came after the call for adoption of this day by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly; in this address he stated “Yoga, embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment, harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.”
