Proposed itinerary (subject to change depending on availability):
We depart from OR Tambo on 28 Sept and arrive in Delhi early on 29 Sep, where we’re picked up in our mini bus to travel to Phool Chatti ashram on the banks of the Ganga river in Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world, where we spend the next 7 nights. We participate in a lovely yoga and meditation program, including bhajan, seva, cleansing ceremony in Ganga and beautiful nature walks – optional shower under a waterfall! Explore Rishikesh on the afternoon of 5 Oct, after the ashram program has finished.
On the 6th of Oct we fly to Dharamshala, where the Dalai Lama and other exiled Buddhist monks live, higher up in the Himalayas. Do some trekking up the mountain to the basecamp of Mt Triund (optional), overnight at the top with spectacular views, maybe even do a little yoga up there and descend the next day. Do lovely shopping in Dharamshala and visit the Buddhist temple.
On the 10th we depart by bus to Amritsar, see the Golden Temple and watch the very interesting (and funny) Wagha border closing ceremony between Pakistan & India.
On the 11th we catch the very comfortable overnight sleeper train to Jaipur, after our morning exploration of the markets of Amritsar.
On the 12th we arrive in Jaipur and we view the Pink City, Hava Mahal, Amber Fort, the step well (one of my favourite things to see) and the floating palace.
On the 13th we depart to Agra. On the way there we view Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned city on a hill (palace complex), and then on to see the highlight of the trip, the indescribable Taj Mahal.
On the 14th we start our journey back to Delhi, to arrive home on the morning of the 15th.
All activities are optional, you don’t have to be a yoga fundi to do this trip.
