Navaratri – The nine Divine Nights

October 16, 2012 @ 4:00 pm - October 23, 2012 @ 8:00 pm

Navaratri is a festival dedicated to the worship of the Universal Mother referred to as “Devi” (Goddess) or “ Shakti” (energy or power). The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning nights.

Navarathri is divided into sets of three days to adore and worship different aspects of the supreme Goddess. On the first three days, the Mother is invoked as powerful force called Durga in order to destroy all our impurities, vices and defects. The next three days, the Mother is adored and worshipped as a giver of spiritual wealth, Lakshmi, who is considered to have the power to bestow on her devotees the inexhaustible wealth. The final three days is spent in worshipping and adoring the mother as the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge, Saraswathi. In order to have all-round success in life, we need the blessings of all three aspects of the Divine Mother, hence the worship for nine nights. On the tenth day Vijay Dhashmi/ Day of Victory Visarjan to mother Durga is done and the fast is complete.

Join us in celebration of this most auspicious time of worship to Divine Mother, starting Tuesday 16 October 2012.
